As the end of the year approaches, the West Michigan Research Station is getting closer to its completion. While we had hoped that the opening would take place this fall, the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed construction, and we’ve seen a 26% increase in material costs. All obstacles aside, we anticipate the opening of the station to be in January 2021.
Experiments and research on the farm started in the Spring of 2020 and will continue moving forward. The exterior of the building is complete, and finishing touches are being made on the interior. Michigan State University will be outfitting the lab, and a bunkhouse for researchers has been built and will be ready for use for the 2021 season. An antique tractor pavilion is currently being built in memory of Zack Snider. Once completed, it will display tractors in the community and surrounding areas dating back to as early as the 1930s. The joint board and the Michigan State Farm Committee continue to meet regularly, and fundraising is ongoing. As we reach the finish line on construction, we are still in need of financial partners and donors to meet our capital goal. The West Michigan Research Station is 100% donor owned, and the Founders Club is still available for those who donate $1,000 or more.
We are overwhelmingly grateful for all the support and contributions to the West Michigan Research Station. The dream has become a reality, and it’s all thanks to your generous support.
With Sincere Thanks,
West Central Michigan Horticultural Research, Inc.
